Vocations Ireland recently attended Ian Callanan’s Music and Ministry Summer School in Roscrea.
The theme for this year was “Make your Home in Me” Jn.15:4. Thursday focused on the notion of vocation and invited Vocations Ireland to provide the Catechesis for the day. Vocation Directors from the Presentation Brothers, Marie Reparatrice Sisters, Mercy Sisters, and Carmelite Sisters and the Director of Vocations Ireland spent the entire day with the team and participants. We were later joined by Fr Willie Purcell the Diocesan Vocation Director who not only shared his story of Priesthood but also his musical skills.
The Vocation Director from the Cistercian College as well as the Abbot and another Vocation Director Sr Marie Dunne CHF were also available during the Summer School to share their stories and gifts.
The Summer school was a a wonderful experience and I certainly plan to be a part of it for the entire week next year. Look out for this opportunity next year and make sure you book in time so not to loose out. There may even be a chance to win a place on the course so keep your eyes on our Website during the coming year.
I was particularly struck by the wonderful opportunity that was given to young people to engage throughout with the presenters and the sharing of skills that took place. It also enabled and empowered young people to engage with contemporary church music and liturgy giving them the opportunity to participate in learning different styles of Liturgy and to be able to share Eucharist together in a very meaningful way.
Vocations Ireland would like to thank the MMT team, Ian, Anne-Marie, Therese,Grainne, Sinead, Paul, Orla, Ciaran, Regina, Cara and Fr Brendan Foley. A special thanks also to Dom Richard Purcell OCSO who graciously hosted this event in the Cistercian College in Roscrea and made everyone so welcome.
Here is a flavour of our day spent with MMT.
