Margaret Cartwright Director for Vocations Ireland joined with the Adoration Sisters in Belfast to give thanks with the Sisters as they welcomed their new Postulant Anne Cahalin and two new Novices Elaine Kelly and Martina Purdy into their Congregation.
Bishop Treanor concelebrated Mass with 6 other Priests and the church was overflowing with family and and many friends of the sisters. It was certainly a joyful occasion. We were blessed with a lovely day which enabled everyone to eat outside where a beautiful buffet awaited us after the Mass.
The Sisters were also celebrating their 168th year since their foundation and the local people were talking about the fact they have been in Belfast for 34 years and just how much this has meant to the local community. It has been 18 years since the sisters had anyone join them and over the last year they have had 3 young women answer the call.
We are beginning to hear more stories like this throughout Ireland. Congregations like the Franciscans, Dominican’s and Salesians have all recently welcomed either new Postulants, Novices or have had someone make their 1st profession.
Maynooth Seminary have also celebrated a number of young men being Ordained over the last few months around the country.
Pope Francis has called Religious to Wake up the World and to be joyful, so let us give thanks for those who are responding to this call. We pray for all those in Formation and for all who are responsible for Formation today that they continue to respond joyfully, “to live the present with passion” (Patricia JordanFSM). We pray too that we will have the courage to respond to Pope Francis challenge to open our lives to the transforming power and newness of the Holy Spirit.
