International Day of Prayer and Awareness against Human Trafficking & Feast Day of St. Josephine Bakitha

APT/AMRI Day of Prayer – 8 February 2022

Pope Francis has designated 8th February, the feast of St. Josephine Bakhita, as the World Day of Prayer, Reflection and Action Against Human Trafficking. Josephine Bakhita was born in Southern Sudan in 1869, and during her life experienced kidnapping and slavery in both Sudan and Italy. After gaining her freedom, Josephine Bakhita dedicated her life to sharing her story and to supporting the poor and suffering. She became a Canossian Sister and was canonised in 2000.

On Tuesday, 8th February, we invite you to join us and others across the world, to reflect on the realities of human trafficking; to raise awareness of the realities of the experiences of individuals who have been trafficked; to comfort, strengthen and empower survivor; and for an end to the trafficking in human beings

Celebrating Foundation Day and Founders of Religious Communities

Celebrating Foundation Day and Founders of Religious Communities

We congratulate the Vincentian Fathers (Congregation of the Mission) who celebrate their Foundation Day today, January 25. St Vincent de Paul founded the priests and brothers of the congregation to preach parish missions, and to educate the clergy in 1625. We pray for them today through the intercession of St Paul whose feast-day it is today.

During this week the Sisters of the Bon Secours, the Cistercian Community of Roscrea, and the Ursuline Community are also celebrating their foundation and their founders. We pray God’s blessing on all their members and their ministries.
